SP-Congress alliance is like “Ganga-Yamuna milan”: Rahul Gandhi

Lucknow: Following Congress-SP alliance in Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi today jointly presented their first show and stated that their alliance is like “Ganga-Yamuna milan”.

“Ek tarah se yahan Ganga-Yamuna ka milan ho raha hai, progress ki Saraswati isme se niklegi. (This alliance is the coming together of Ganga-Yamuna. The Saraswati of progress will emerge from this),” he said.

“This is an alliance of three Ps — Progress, Prosperity and Peace — to fight the politics of anger, creating divide and making false promises,” he added further.

Congress vice president further mentioned that the alliance would “fight fascist forces” such as the Bharatiya Janata Party and then both Akhilesh and Rahul further mentioned that this alliance is people’s alliance.

While briefing a joint press conference here in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav said “we are like two wheels of a bicycle.”

Kick starting the poll campaign for the Samajwadi Party-Congress alliance in Uttar Pradesh, both the leaders at their first joint press briefing hugged each other and exchanged flower bouquets.

Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi said, “This is not an opportunistic alliance. We will show Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP-RSS that people of UP are with us.”

On other hand, both leaders ward off questions on the supposed damage in the alliance over which party will contest the seats in Amethi and Rae Bareilly, represented by Rahul and Sonia Gandhi respectively.

Both Akhilesh and Rahul declined to say whether Sonia Gandhi and Mulayam Singh Yadav will campaign for the election adding that they would not reveal electoral strategies.
