Special court acquits 36, convicts 24 in Gulbarg society massacre

Ahmedabad: On Thursday, a special SIT court gave the verdict in the 2002 post-Godhra riots case of Gulbarg society massacre by acquitting 36 and convicting 24 in the case.

As per the judgement, out of the 66 guilty, 36 have been acquitted whereas 24 have been convicted. Eleven among the guilty face charged of murder. Also, BJP corporator Bipin Patel has been acquitted by the special court.

The quantum of punishment will be out on June 6.

Reacting on the judgment, former Congress MP Ehsan Jafri’s widow said, “Complete justice has not been done; I will continue to fight.”

In the Gulbarg society massacre, around 69 people including former Congress MP Ehsan Jafri were killed.

The judgement in the case comes eight months after the trial concluded on September 22, 2015.
