Suspected militants rob bank, run away with demonetised cash

Srinagar: Some armed men believed to be suspected militants today robbed a bank in Chrar-e-Sharief area of central Kashmir’s Budgam district and run away with nearly cash worth Rs 13 lakh cash.

According to police, the gunmen barged into the Jammu and Kashmir Bank branch at Malpora in Chrar-e-Sharief and took away cash from the counters at gunpoint.

The officer told media persons, that exact amount of the money taken by the gunmen were being ascertained, but the bank officials believe the amount to be around Rs 13 lakh.

One officer from the bank said that the money which was taken away by the armed men is most of the currency is demonetized notes and only 2 lakhs amount is from the whole cash is the new currency notes.

He further said that the police have taken cognizance of the incident and started investigations.
