Tamil Nadu politics is in for a surprise as 27 more MLAs skip EPS-OPS meet

CHENNAI: In what was happening to be an interaction of the EPS-OPS camp to put on notice Sasikala and Dhinakaran, turn out to be a real surprise for the chief minister and his deputy, as at least 27 more legislators – besides the 21 that are there in the resort of Puducherry was absent, signifying the government’s eroding base.

After the yesterday interaction, the united factions told media reporters that the party general council and executive committee will meet on September 12 as part of the process to remove V K Sasikala and Dhinakaran as the deputy general secretary.

Point to be noted here is that Dhinakaran’s known supporters were not invited for the meeting, but what came as a shock for the leaders was the abstention of 27 MLAs who were believed to be by the EPS-OPS side.

The press release from the party headquarters said the general council and executive committee meeting on September 12 will be chaired by party presidium chairman E Madhusudhanan at 10.35am in Vanagaram. “Following the demand from a majority of the party cadres, the general council and executive committee will be convened according to party bylaw, rule 19, section 7,” the release said.

The EPS-OPS camp put out another statement, directing all executive committee members, district office-bearers, secretaries of unions, towns, area and town panchayats and that of other states to attend the general council meeting.

In the resolution passed at yesterday meeting, the EPS-OPS camp termed the appointments made by Dhinakaran as null and void.
“This meeting resolves that all those appointed by Puratchi Thalaivi Amma and those who attained their positions through elections will continue to function in the same positions.”
The EPS-OPS camp last week removed Dhinakaran from the post of party deputy general secretary alleging violation of party bylaws.”When the election commission has not acknowledged the temporary ap pointment of Sasikala, her decision to appoint Dhinakaran as deputy general secretary and his actions violate party bylaws,” a resolution said.
