Triple Talaq violated human rights and is unconstitutional: Court

Allahabad: The Allahabad High Court today stated that Triple Talaq was unconstitutional and further went on to say that Talaq violated human rights and that personal law of any community cannot be above the constitution.

The Allahabad high court bench made it clear that the Islamic practice of divorcing a woman by saying the word “talaq” thrice is unconstitutional.

Triple Talaq has been one of the prime reasons of debate in recent times and is also one of India’s most contentious religious issues.

The high court said the triple talaq practice – sanctioned under Muslim personal law that governs marriage, property and divorce – violated the rights of Muslim women, reports said.
