Undersea quake measuring 6.2 on Richter scale, jolts central Indonesia

Jakarta: Earthquake measuring 6.2 Richter scale hit the shore of central Indonesia on Thursday as reported by US seismologists however, no Tsunami alerts were issued. Also, initially there are no reports of casualties or the damage which might have been caused by the earthquake.

As per the US Geological Survey, the undersea quake hit 300 km south of the famous holiday island Lombok at 12:13 pm at a depth of 29 kilometres.

Indonesia is an earthquake prone zone due to its position on the pacific ‘Ring of Fire’, where the tectonic plates are most vulnerable to collide causing volcanic eruptions and seismic disturbances.
