Violence breaks out in Kanpur during Tazia procession, thirty injured

Kanpur: At least thirty people were injured and around half a dozen of vehicles were set ablaze on Sunday after a communal clash broke out in Param Purva area of Kanpur district during a Tazia procession.

As per reports, two groups from different communities clashed during Muharram procession in Param Purva area. The incident took place when a group of people from minority community was taking out Tazia procession through a Hindu-dominated area without taking permission from the authorities.

Alok Singh, Inspector General of Police said that some members of another community started throwing stones at it. He also said that the situation was being closely monitored.

According to sources, two cars and motorcycles were set ablaze and nearly thirty people were injured in a dispute.

Sources say that heavy security was deployed in the region. Also, police resorted to baton-charge in order to control the situation.

Similar incidents happened in Bihar, Jharkhand and other parts of Uttar Pradesh.
