Zakir Naik foundation under Home Ministry scanner

New Delhi: Islamic preacher Dr Zakir Naik who runs NGO with the name of Islamic Research Foundation (IRF) has come under the scanner of the Home Ministry.

The Ministry admits that the funds his NGO received from abroad have been spent on political activities and in inspiring people towards drastic views.

According to senior Home Ministry official an investigation has been ordered on the activities of IRF which was registered under the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA).

Zakir Naik who is Mumbai based has come under scanner after reports suggest that his speech have inspired some Dhaka cafe attackers.

The Maharashtra government has ordered a probe into the speeches of Naik.

The Home Ministry probe will cover allegations that the NGO’s fund were used to attracting youths towards terror, official said.
